A Holonic Approach to Shakespeare: The Digital Reference System (DRS)
2012
Prefatory RemarksWhen hypertext was made available on the Internet after 1994 it shaped the concepts of public domain and free access. The web server and browsing system that Tim Berners-Lee and Robert Cailliau designed, determined the future digital, editorial and cultural developments for traditional audiences and digital natives alike. They quickly became the generalized interface tools and thus contributed to today's editorial standards. As they helped to create this innovative environment called the Internet, they also helped to establish many standards such as URL, URI, HTTP HTML or XML, which provided interoperability amongst different platforms and allowed internationalization.Shake…
Framing Issues in The Specialised Discourse Of Diplomacy: A Quantitative and Qualitative Approach
2017
Relevant international issues, such as terrorism, immigration, climate change, human security, cybersecurity and so on, imply the construction of complex ideological and axiological discursive positions, which stem from a web of unavoidably superimposed emotional and moral evaluations, often interwoven with logical observations (Spinzi 2016). All transactions whether promoting ideologies and values or selling products are a way of profiting from the general representation of a nation, and strategic communication contributes to this by increasing appreciation and influencing people’s behaviour. Embracing the perspective that transformations in social life are led by discourse (Fairclough, 20…

The new England code : controlling female agency in contemporary American tv drama
2008
Masteroppgave i engelsk - Universitetet i Agder 2008 In an attempt to contextualize the DC observations, the overarching super-genre of melo-drama has been given particular attention. The relevance of melodrama is evident as the main ‘corpus’ of the survey, Cold Case, embodies a range of melodramatic traits. Furthermore, as will be seen in Chapters 1 and 3 particularly, melodramatic and Puritan value sets tend to overlap, especially in the attitude towards family. All chapters include analyses of individual Cold Case episodes, and each analysis comes with a description of scenes within the episode written in a slightly more subjective language. This has been done in order to provide the rea…
THE HOUSE THAT IS NOT THERE: THE HOME FEELING IN JONATHAN RABAN’S LANGUAGE IN FOREIGN LAND
2021
This work aims to analyse the novel of the journalist and novelist Jonathan Raban, Foreign Land, trying to highlight how, through the language used, the author manages to elaborate a personal, intimate and even dramatic vision of themes such as the relationship between man and the environment, the sense of uprooting and the love for the sea that are typical themes of travel literature within which this novel is enrolled. More specifically, the text, taken from a work of reading analysis and translation of the Rabanian work from English to Italian, aims to highlight the metaphorical dimension of the home feeling made particularly effective by the parallelism between the inner dimension of th…
Communicating Medical Information Online: The Case of Adolescent Health Websites
2020
In recent times, our understanding and practice of public health has been increasingly guided by technological advances generally based on governmental decisions (Green et al. 2009). Not only does the growth of a public system for protecting health hinge upon scientific discovery and dissemination of medical knowledge, but also the World Wide Web has considerably changed the health communication environment. This paper considers the online health information addressed to adolescents. Given that young people have difficulty accessing traditional health services, in theory, the Internet might offer them a more confidential and convenient access to an unprecedented level of information about a…
